Sweet Clouds (Meringue)

Ingredients

  • 4 egg whites, ca. 140g
  • 200g fine sugar
  • Lemon juice

You can also make rain clouds, for this you require blue food colouring and hundreds and thousands (sugar sprinkles).

You also need a mixer. Get help from an adult when mixing and folding in the sugar.

Crack open the eggs and separate the egg white from the egg yolk. Take the egg white and pour it into a fat-free bowl (it is important that there is no fat or egg yolk in the egg white, otherwise it will not be stiff enough).

Use the mixer to whisk the egg white into a stiff beaten egg white and then add a few drops of lemon juice. Then add the sugar to the bowl little by little; add it carefully and gradually. (If you want to make colourful clouds or rain clouds you can now add the food colouring.) Whisk the beaten egg white until it is stiff.

Now put it in a piping bag and use it to pipe cloud shapes on a baking tray lined with
baking paper.

For rain clouds you can now sprinkle hundreds and thousands as rain drops on the clouds.

Preheat the oven to around 100 - 120°C. When you are finished with the decoration, place the baking tray in the oven. Depending on the size of the clouds they will require between an hour and an hour and a half to become dry to the touch. Make sure they do not turn brown!

Carefully check that they are completely dry, then take them out of the oven and leave them to cool. Enjoy eating your own weather forecast!
